Wildlife Advice
Keep the situation calm and safe.
If we have asked you to wait for help, or you have contacted us and are waiting for further advice, the safest thing in many situations is to reduce disturbance rather than repeatedly approaching the animal.
- Keep a safe distance unless you have been specifically advised to do otherwise.
- Keep children and pets away.
- Do not feed or give water unless advised.
- Do not restrain, chase or move the animal unless an adviser has told you it is safe and necessary.
- If the animal moves away, note the direction and the last place you saw it.
- If safe, note landmarks or an accurate location so responders can find the scene.
- If the animal's condition changes significantly, call the helpline again.
- If the animal moves onto a road, do not follow it into traffic. Move to safety and use the road-specific guidance.
