Wildlife Advice
Do not put yourself in traffic to reach an animal.
Your safety and the safety of other road users comes first.
If the animal is on the road
Do not step into live traffic or attempt to stop vehicles yourself. Move to a safe place before making any call.
If the animal is injured but you can observe from safety, call us with the clearest location possible.
For hazards on Scottish trunk roads or motorways, contact Traffic Scotland on 0800 028 1414. For hazards on local roads, contact the relevant local council.
Only contact Police Scotland where road users are at risk and the situation needs a police response. Use 999 only if someone is in immediate danger or a collision has happened.
If you can observe safely
Give the clearest location possible, including road name or number, direction of travel, nearby junctions or landmarks.
If the animal has moved away, note the direction in which it travelled.
