A trapped animal can injure itself very quickly.

Do not put yourself at risk trying to free wildlife. An animal that is frightened, trapped or in pain may bite, scratch, kick or strike even if the species would normally avoid people.

Assess from a safe distance

Keep people and pets away and describe exactly what the animal is trapped in, whether it can still move, and whether traffic, water, height, wire, netting or specialist tools may be involved.

Do not attempt to free large wildlife, birds of prey, bats or any animal where specialist tools, climbing, traffic management, entering water, working at height or another hazardous activity would be required.

If an animal has been caught in netting, wire, glue or another material, do not cut it loose and leave it. It may still be injured or carrying material that can tighten again.
